N.G. Michaloliakos: Along with the newspaper “Empros” for a New Greece

Article of the Secretary General of Golden Dawn, Nikolaos Michaloliakos, to the national newspaper “Empros”

The history of the title of this newspaper is long and important. The founder of this newspaper was Dimitrios Kalapothakis from Areopolis at Mani, who before the publication of the newspaper EMPROS was one of the founders of the ‘national Corporation”, whose members were also Kostis Palamas and Ioannis Drosinis, the elite of our Nation.

They blamed the “National Corporation” for our defeat at the War of 1897, however the spirit of the ‘national Corporation” led the Nation to Macedonia, Thrace, to the gates of Constantinople and in Ankara, in the march of our Glorious Army for the dream of the Great Idea, an idea that shall remain alive, as long as there still alive Greeks.

Promoted by the newspaper “EMPROS” started the Saga of Macedonia, with the National Heroes Pavlos Melas and Ion Dragoumes, while Dimitris Kalapothakis was a pioneer in this National Saga. In fact, while he was assembling volunteers for the magnificent Saga of Macedonia, he asked for a meeting with the Prime Minister at that time, Dimitrios Rallis. So, he arrived to the office of the Prime Minister, accompanied with common people, mostly form Mani and Crete, who were armed but had a shabby appearance.

After inspecting them, the Prime Minister severely questioned him: “Who are these people?” So, Dimitris Kalapothakis answered him: “Mr. prime Minister, the first day I searched for volunteers in Academia. No volunteers! The second day, I searched for volunteers at the University. Nothing, again. Well, the third day, these people volunteered.”

These words of Dimitris Kalapotharakos were totally true. The “urban class” always denied, then and now, the participation in the National Fights, because they only aspire money and calmness. And this is visible even today, when the common people, in Thessalonica, at Peristeri, at Perama, in Mani and in the border islands embrace the Nationalistic Movement.

“Empros”, in other words, “march ahead” along with People for a National Saga, against the foreign occupation, for a New Greece, the Greece of our dreams.
